Trent, Zach, Seth, and I
When November started, some buddies and I decided to grow our moustaches, to help raise awareness of men’s health issues, such as prostate cancer. We called ourselves “The Four Horsemen”. It is said that the goal of “Movember” is to “change the face of men’s health”. By encouraging men (whom the Movember charity refer to as “Mo Bros”) to get involved, Movember aims to increase early cancer detection, diagnosis and effective treatments, and ultimately reduce the number of preventable deaths. And of course, it brings guys together, and allows them to do something a little different. One thing is for sure – the wives were not impressed by our decision and hated the idea of their husbands having moustaches, but they all went along with it since we were so excited.
For me, the excitement died around day 13 (pictured in the middle image above) when I realised I looked terrible. To make matters worse, my students started saying that I looked like Hitler! As the end of the month drew near, two of The Horsemen dropped out, and the third was heading back to the States for a family emergency. I was losing my steam. One night, Catherine started putting together a cute outfit for Elijah, and was talking about the photos that we would be taking at our Thanksgiving dinner. Despite the fact that I was only 3 days away from completing the month, I decided to shave off the moustache so that, in the future, I could stand looking at pictures of our first Thanksgiving with Elijah. Catherine, as you can see in this picture, was completely overjoyed to hear that the moustache was coming off three days earlier than originally planned.
