We spent a couple of weeks trying to decide on Halloween costumes for this year. We wanted to go dressed as a family, but almost everything available online in China is either too small, or ridiculously expensive. When we did find something that would fit us, then there would be no baby size for Elijah. Eventually we came up with the idea to go as mummies. Considering that we are saving money, this was the wisest option since it was completely D.I.Y and very cheap!
We went online and ordered 50 rolls of bandages and two face paint colours (black and white). Mommy was a pretty proud mummy <pat on the back> because she got the whole family dressed for Halloween, and it only cost $21. Now that’s impressive!
We were amazed at the responses that we got for these costumes. If people weren’t jumping back in horror and then saying how awesomely scary we looked, then they were bouncing up and down with excitement saying how cute Elijah looked in his mummy outfit. There’s no doubt about it – we had a ton of fun going out dressed up like this, and we enjoyed seeing how people reacted. It was really amusing to see the shocked look on their faces, which made it hard for us to not smile (i.e. stay in character). Have you ever tried to keep a straight face while people are taking pictures? It is really tough! Halloween is catching on in China, but for the most part people had no idea why we were dressed up. The most fun that we had was with the younger crowds, since they know about Halloween, and the foreigners that we met while we were out and about.
|At a Halloween Party|
Once we were all wrapped up and ready to go, we went to Grand High School (where Justin teaches) and joined the students and other teachers for a high school Halloween party. As you can imagine – Elijah was quite a hit! We have some pictures of the rest of our evening, and they will be coming to you shortly.
