On a day-trip to the countryside, we visited the beautiful Chateau Nine Peaks Wine Farm. It was a rainy, and rather chilly, day, but we spent most of our day inside so that didn’t matter. Shortly after jumping out of the bus that we had hired, our group was taken on a tour of the grounds. Again, we didn’t do much viewing of the outside since it was raining, but there was plenty to see indoors. We did a post on the tour that we did, and you can check that out here: Chateau Nine Peaks. That post has some great pictures of the Chateau. This post contains pictures from the wine tasting and delicious meal that we had at Nine Peaks. The staff there were very kind, and we felt very welcomed at this wine farm. The wine flowed, the food was plentiful, and the atmosphere was perfect!
We tasted about four wines in the Tasting Room which had two large fireplaces. Truthfully, I can’t remember exactly how many wines we tasted because the wine started flowing then and didn’t stop all the way through lunch. It was amazing to stand next to a fire and sip wine while chatting to new friends. There was no pressure to listen to a long speeches about grapes, wines and fermentation processes, but others did ask questions, and we were able to listen and learn (if we wanted to). As you can tell, it was relaxed and… awesome! After the tasting we did a tour of the various parts of the Chateau, and then met back up with all the kids in “the Cafeteria” for lunch. There were a ton of kids on this day-trip, since our group mainly consisted of families. A kind gentleman, the owner, I think, offered to keep an eye on all of the kids while the parents went on the tour and for the wine tasting. BONUS!
The rest of the afternoon was spent in the Cafeteria, drinking more wine, and enjoying a four course meal. For starters we had a Chicken Caesar Salad, followed by a Vegetable Soup with bread. The main course was a juicy piece of steak with potatoes, broccoli and cherry tomatoes and a switch over to red wine. Dessert was more wine, cheesecake, and finally coffee (which we needed). There was also a special three course meal prepared for the children: vegetable soup, a beef burger with chips, and then cheese cake.
…We walked back to the bus quite tipsy, but very happy with our day spent at this wonderful wine farm!
It was dark when we got back to Qingdao, and even though it was a long day, it had been very much enjoyed by everyone. The children had a lot of fun, playing, running around, and making new friends. The adults… well, all of the above PLUS some wine and cheer. We are grateful for Tasha, a fellow Qingdao Mama, and the fact that she took the initiative to put this day-trip together for all of us. We look forward to either another day at Chateau Nine Peaks, or maybe even some place new.
