With only a couple of weeks left before we meet our son, I have been working on some crafts for his nursery. Unfortunately I don’t have much space to work with, but we might be moving in the next couple of months so I have been storing up ideas for later. Some of these ideas I have already started working on, but others I am saving for when I know if our move with be definite or not. Seeing as Elijah will sleep in our room for the first few weeks, this little room might never get used as more than just a glorified closet and changing area. But still, as a mommy, it’s fun to decorate an area for my baby. We love this apartment, so we would be sad to move, but it would also be nice to have a decent sized room for Eli as he grows and needs more than just a crib.
The first thing I wanted to do on the wall above his crib was paint some letters which would, of course, spell out his name. Even though I start working on this a long time ago, I couldn’t blog about it since we had not yet revealed baby boy’s name. I had to find the letters online and have them delivered to our school because there are no craft stores here. I have only found one place where I can go buy canvases and paint (my creative side is very sad about the lack of artistic materials here!), and the rest has to be sourced online. Getting creative here in China is a bit challenging!
We put the letters up on the wall below a painting we had bought for Elijah while we were in Thailand. The painting is of three elephants – daddy, baby and mommy – walking in the moonlight. When we saw it, we knew that we had to get it for his room. We also got him the elephant lamp that is pictured in the first imagine of this post. It is very pretty when it is lit up!
These two boards were simple to make. I covered some cork board with striped blue and white contact paper (which I had ordered online for nursery decoration), printed images with words that I like, and then finished the boards off with some ribbon that I had from my baby shower.
The most recently completed craft was a painting of a baby elephant holding it’s mommy’s tail (below). I found the image online, redrew it onto canvas, and then painted the darker area blue, leaving the white part untouched. I am working on similar style canvas to go with this one — but that one is not done yet.
I was really pleased with how this painting came out!
For now, this is what the wall above Eli’s crib looks like….
What you see above is pretty much all the space available to decorate, so for the time being we are going to leave it like that. Once we move Eli’s crib into our room, his changing table will go under these paintings. If we do move to a new apartment I will have a lot more to work with, and that will be really fun!
I will do a post on Eli’s nursery soon, but in order to get a picture of the room you have to back up so far against the opposite wall and you can’t really see the whole effect. What a pity! It’s small, but really quite cute — Hopefully I can get a couple of pictures that portray that for all of you.
