So what is in that package? And why does Justin look so happy?
Well, yesterday morning we arrived at school, and the security guard made some grunting sounds at us, and then he formed a square shape with his hands. All that usually means is that we have mail. Although it could be for any of the white faces who work here because the security guard just sees English names and calls the first one of us that he sees. Pretty good system we have going here, right? Not too bad – It works.
Since we are expecting a box of goodies from South Africa, I started jumping up and down giggling with excitement. Strangely enough, we were then handed a large envelope instead of a box. Hmm… Okay, what could this be? I immediately recognised my good friend, Catherine’s, handwriting, so we tore the envelope open to see what she had sent. As soon as we saw that there was a black jacket inside, we burst out laughing. Let me tell you the story behind this gift…
Justin and Clinton (Catherine’s husband) met in South Africa. In fact, they met just before our wedding, and after that we pretty much didn’t stop hanging out. Catherine and I – or “Catherine Squared”, as we like to call ourselves – went to high school together, and we have always been very close. In February when Justin and Clinton met, they hit it off immediately. They are the type of guys that quite simply “get each other”. They are always joking around and laughing, and this is great for Catherine and I because what’s better than having your husbands instantly like each other. It’s prefect!
Above you can see that Justin is wearing a black jacket. This is, in fact, Clinton’s jacket, and even though Justin is a little taller, and perhaps these two boys are not exactly the same size, this jacket fits them both perfectly. You could say that this jacket is like the jeans in the “Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants”, but in a much manlier form, of course! Justin put it on one night (the night pictured above), and he never wanted to take it off. For the next two months he always joked that it was his jacket, and that he was going to have to take it with him when we left for Asia.
Last month Clinton decided to send Justin the jacket as a surprise. It was supposed to arrive as a birthday-suprise, but due to the crazy delays in the postal services between Africa and China, the jacket took nearly a month to arrive. It really didn’t matter to us when it arrived – because we thought that this gesture was super sweet, and very funny. We could not stop laughing. Justin put the jacket on straight away, and it’s autumn here so it’s really perfect for this weather.
Thank you Clinton and Catherine!
This was a really sweet gesture, and we are still grinning.
You guys are really awesome, and we miss you!!!
