Elijah is one week old today. This has felt like the longest yet shortest week of our lives. It has been an absolutely amazing experience, and because he seems to change everyday we are trying to hang onto every moment and soak up all of this beauty. I wish that we could pause time or at least make it slow down, but every time we blink another day has passed by. Just like with the pregnancy, becoming parents is not like others told us it would be. The biggest lesson we have learned is not to pay too much attention to advice and comments from others. Everyone’s experience is different, and we are unbelievably thankful for the one that God has blessed us with. Despite mommy having a cold and some unavoidable postpartum pain, all of us are doing really well. The sleep deprivation is nowhere near as bad as we thought it would be, but perhaps after a few weeks we might feel differently. We will be heading to Beijing tomorrow morning to get Eli’s passport, and we are both quite excited about this as we have not left Qingdao together since we went to Thailand for January and February. No doubt, it will be a different experience going somewhere with our new addition, but still we are looking forward to it.
Since Eli is one week old today, I decided to take some newborn shots of him. I hope to get some professional ones done soon, but since mothers and babies in China are not allowed to leave their homes for the first 30 days after childbirth, it might be a challenge to find a photo studio willing to take these newborn pictures for us. Next week we will see if we can find a place that will do it, but for now here are some home-photoshoot-pictures of our bundle of joy!
I did these at home with a white sheet over our bed. Eli was pretty happy to have me photograph him and, for the most part, he went along with whatever I tried. I was not however able to get him into the cute poses that I see all over Pinterest, so I hope to find a studio that can do that.
It’s hard to believe that he was born a week ago already. I was only due to have him today or tomorrow, but we are so happy that he decided to join us earlier. This has been a magical week!
