You have followed us through more than 8 months of pregnancy – the bumpdates, the belly posts and all of the hospital experiences. Throughout all this time we have only referred to our little one as “Baby E”. Of course, it was easy to assume that this was a shortened version of “Baby Esser”, but it is, in fact, a clue to our baby boy’s actual name! We know that many of you are dying to know the name of our sweet little baby, and with about a month left until he is in our arms, today we are going to reveal it to you. We are thankful to have such loving family and friends because none of you have pressured us to announce his name. In fact, most of you are just plain excited to know what it is, and to be able to call him by this name. I’m not completely sure why we have waited this long to announce it, but here we are today ready to announce it to all of you. We have been calling him by this name for a long time, but now we want to be able to mention it freely in our conversations with you, and in future blog posts. So, no more waiting, here it is…
Our little boy’s name is:
Elijah (pronounced ee-LYE-jah) is of Hebrew origin, and means “The Lord is My God”. In the Bible, Elijah was a great prophet of Israel.
When we talk to, and about, our little man we have been using the name “Eli” for short. I think that Eli will stick and most people will use that as his nickname. In our opinion, Elijah is a strong name, and we are very happy with it!! There was initially some apprehension on my part (not Justin’s) to announce our baby’s name, because inevitably people will have opinions or make insensitive comments. But regardless of what anyone thinks, this is the name that we have chosen for our child, and WE ABSOLUTELY ADORE IT!!
Why Elijah James?
We actually had another name that we loved too. A name that we spoke about using for years, but eventually we decided to keep that one for when (if) we have a second boy later. We prayed about the name, asking for the peace to know which one was right, and we found that peace with the name “Elijah”. The second name,”James”, was daddy’s choice. He seemed pretty sure that this was the one he loved, and after a few days of letting it roll of my tongue, I loved it too!
So there you have it – we can finally start referring to Baby E as “Elijah” or “Eli” now. Only about five more weeks until we meet the little guy, and words cannot express how excited we are!
