Poolside Bintangs. Nothing better, after an action-packed day of explorations on a beautiful island, than heading back to your poolside room for a few ice cold beers while your little one takes a nap. Bintang Beer (Indonesian: Bir Bintang, literally “Star Beer”) is a brand of beer from Indonesia. It’s taste is often compared to that of Heineken, and the Bintang bottle is reminiscent of a Heineken bottle as well – the red star (bintang) on the bottle is the same as the Heineken star. Our guesthouse never seemed to have enough Bintangs on hand, but the staff working there were so incredibly sweet, and they never did mind running out to buy a case whenever needed. That makes us sound like alcoholics, but seriously… vacation, pool, cold beers – need I say more!? While Elijah napped in our room during the late afternoon (usually because he was exhausted from our daily expeditions) we would lounge out by the pool, appreciating the warm weather and the beautiful scenery. In fact, there were days where we didn’t even venture far from the pool at all. We went from our room, to the restaurant, to the pool, and back to the restaurant… and then into the pool again. Since our room was right next to the pool, we were able to swim and have some alone time while Elijah took his naps. Anyone who has ever traveled with their toddler, will know that naps are basically the only “dates” you’ll be getting while you are away.
The pool had two levels, with one flowing into the other. We moved one of the bricks on the top pool, to create a waterfall into the bottom pool. Actually, a couple of kids staying at Indigo Villa showed us how to do this. It sure was fun playing under the “waterfall” with all the kids, and even when it was just the two of us. We are such goofballs!
