Everyone in our dorm room on some sort of electronic device!
For the three days before the marathon, we tried to relax as much as possible. When we moved into the room above, there was a girl lying in bed, coughing. I instantly got a bad feeling, and wanted to run away from the germs she was spreading! We asked the hostel if we could change rooms, however with such short notice, they had no other rooms available. I tried to tell myself that I wouldn’t get sick from this girl, but I had a terrible feeling about the room. A few weeks before, we had booked a room in another hotel where they had private rooms available, so we didn’t have to sleep here for long. We wanted to be sure that we had two nights of good sleep before the marathon. I tried to ignore the bad feeling!
Reading in our dorm room.
We found a cute shop nearby that had loads of little goodies!
I’m such a planner!
The hostel dogs were lazying around with us.
On a wall in Helen’s – “Do not pray for easy life, Pray to be Stronger”
(There’s a long story behind this, but basically, this phrase is related to something I was trying to figure out. After this, and other obvious signs, my questions were answered.)
We played games, relaxed, and made sure we were as rested as possible.
Lots of Scrabble…
This lovely little place has great hot/ cold drinks.
Inside “Wake Cup Cafe”
Another cute cafe.
The bar and lounge area of our hostel.
We relaxed here a lot. I started feeling drained and my throat was hurting!
My thoughts at this stage:
“Why does my throat hurt? Why is my chest sore? Oh no… That germ girl! Am I getting sick???
No, not me, I’m fit and strong, I’ve been training for a marathon in subzero temperatures for the last three months! Pfffftttt… It’s just my body winding down from all the training!!! I will be FINE!”
See how he looks at me… (pity in his eyes).
Finding a Korean restaurant nearby resulted in us returning there three days in a row!
They stopped asking us to write out our orders in Mandarin when we figured out that one of the ladies understood when we ordered in Korean (verbally). Great!
Korean Kimchi Fried Rice.
Another favorite of mine!
