Pumpkin Carving 2015 – Another fun tradition has come and gone. This year we had plans to carve pumpkins with a couple of new friends, but we could not find decent pumpkins. So we postponed but then never got around to doing it. Justin and I had decorated our home with lots of Pumpkins for a community fellowship event which ended up getting postponed too. Lots of postponements, I know! In the end, we decided to give carving a try by ourselves since we had a couple of medium to small pumpkins and they weren’t going to last more than a couple of days. It wasn’t too difficult carving the small pumpkins, but all of the coolest designs are made for much larger pumpkins. Ours were not only small but also very flat. Thankfully, we still had our carving tools from last year. Justin’s folks had kindly sent us two sets of those. It would be practically impossible to carve without the handy little blades that come in the carving sets. We timed it all pretty well… so while Eli was napping, we carved and enjoyed a couple of cold beers.
Justin did a “Boo!” design, and I went with “Three Peas in a Pod”, which is us, of course!
They came out pretty good for such small/ flat pumpkins. The candles were barely lit for 2 minutes and we could already smell the pumpkin cooking inside. The lids were so close to the flame due to how flat the pumpkins were. We loved the reflection of the designs on the tiled floor…
And here we are, proudly holding our little carved pumpkins….
