The last time that we did pumpkin carving was in 2012, with Justin’s parents. That was a great experience for us, and we’ll never forget how much we laughed that evening. Last October, Justin’s mother sent us a Pumpkin Carving Kit, containing tools and patterns, but we had no one to carve pumpkins with so Halloween kind of slipped by unnoticed. I don’t think we even knew where to get decent sized pumpkins, so we didn’t get to use this pumpkin carving set. This year we didn’t want to miss out, so we asked around and found out where to get pumpkins. Sure, they were a little on the small side, but they would certainly work for carving. Our friends, Michael and Elizabeth, said that they would like to carve too, so we decided to make an evening of it. Why carve pumpkins alone, when you can get get together with friends and have some fun!
|Choosing a pattern|
These patterns are great because they allow you to create some really precise pumpkin carvings. The tools provided are also much better than using just a knife. A big thanks to Justin’s mother for sending these – she knows that we really enjoy them.
We all chose a pattern and then got to work around the table. This always turns out to be such fun. We chat and laugh while working on our pumpkin art. Here’s a look at our pumpkins from 2012… Justin did the one on the far left and I did the second one.

With one baby in bed by 7pm, the younger two got to watch us get creative since they generally fall asleep a little later. Thea and Elijah played on the mat for a while, and then Thea went to sleep. Apparently Elijah is like his parents, a night owl, because he was up a lot longer than the girls.
|Playing with Aunty Liz|
This was a very enjoyable evening. We all sat in Rhema’s bedroom and listened to a bedtime Bible Story, played with the babies, carved pumpkins, enjoyed some wine and cheese, laughed a lot, and then watched a movie. Well, we watched a bit of a movie and then realised we needed to go home and get into bed.
This pumpkin carving was our main source of laughter for the evening.
Thank you to our friends for having us over to their apartment for pumpkin carving. We really miss family during these times, so it is nice to have people to share these experiences with.
