Last Saturday we took part in the QAIS Family Fun Run. A morning of running, riding, playing, eating, and enjoying community, along Qingdao’s beautiful seaside! We don’t live too far away so we walked to the starting line, the seaside lawn at the Hyatt Regency. There were a number of games, crafts, activities, and food stalls to check out before the fun run began. The central event was a 5km by-any-means run along the boardwalk, from the Hyatt to Polar Ocean World and back. Bikes, rollerblades, skateboards, scooters, strollers, and any other person-powered means of transportation were welcome. We met a lot of friends, and had a great time walking along the seaside. The sky was blue and the temperature was perfect!
We had to preregister so that we could all get a free t-shirt. There were hundreds of orange t-shirsts all along this designated portion of the boardwalk on Saturday morning. Elijah slept through the entire event, which we expected that he would since this event was during this nap time. He fell asleep as we arrived and woke up as we were leaving – poor kiddo! He missed all of the excitement.
This was a great family event, and we are thankful for schools like QAIS who take the time to involve the whole community. We also attended the QAIS International Fair earlier this year. Qingdao Ameriasia International School does a great join at reaching out, and getting involved. All of the proceeds from this Family Fun Run were donated to the Qingdao Expat Charity Group, which has been doing great things in this city.
