Near our hotel.
Ironically, I started to feel better on race day! I knew that I wasn’t supposed to run for at least a week after being as ill I was, however it was a strange feeling to be well enough to get up, and walk around, on the day I thought I would be running my first marathon.
The weather was great! When we woke up, I put on the TV and watched the live broadcast of the race.
I was cheering the runners on!!
Xiamen is very different from where we live, in Dongying!
As you can see, it is very well built, and clean.
We walked to the marathon head office to hand in my shoe tracker. I would not need it, and we had paid a deposit for it. As we were walking, my energy got lower and lower. Justin had to run to the office, and leave me to walk at a snail’s pace!!
I waited for Justin at this bridge.
There he comes… (on the right hand side).
With no energy in me to keep walking, we decided to catch a cab to the coast.
We had previously given up the idea of visiting the famous GulangYu off the coast of Xiamen,
however it was early and I wanted to go, so we headed to the ferry port.
Once on the island (GulangYu), there is a preferential through ticket for all of the scenic spots on the island. This ticket saves you money, and gives you entry to the main sights.
Justin buying our very tickets. Each ticket was only about Y10. Pretty cheap!
Boarding the ferry.
We filed into the boarding area and waited. It felt like we were in a cattle pen, because as usual we were pushed around, and everyone tried to get as close as they could to the gate.
Seriously, there is no concept of a queue here.
We have decided to start calling this cluster%^&* a “Chinese queue”.
The ferry to GulangYu.
After all the shoving and pushing to get on the ferry…
It only took 5 minutes to get to Gulang Yu.
Wow, quick ride!
We arrived on the islet and started exploring straight away.
One of the Gulang Yu beaches.
Yummy.. Milk tea!
