Ready for the Aquarium. For the last few months we have been wondering when Elijah will be ready to go to the zoo, aquarium, or even to the movies. He loves to watch things. A live show, for example, is very captivating for him, but since he is now a toddler, we were not sure how long any of these things would entertain him. He often just wants to run… and when I say run, I mean, run and never look up or around. In a previous post – How to Walk with a Toddler – we summed up what walks with Eli are like at the moment. We therefore assumed that Eli wouldn’t really be ready to enjoy a trip to the aquarium or zoo for at least another year since we isn’t really at the stage of stopping to look and take things like that in. We have been to a couple of small petting zoo areas, and he doesn’t seem too interested in the animals, despite the fact that he is obsessed with his small plastic animals at home.
We were therefore really surprised at how he reacted a couple of weeks ago when he found a massive fish tank. Elijah and I had been cherry picking with some students and their mothers. After our time on the Cherry Farm, we went for dinner at a restaurant contained within a large indoor ecological garden. Elijah and I went for a walk, and came across a big fish tank. He stood next to the tank, staring at the fish (there was only one large fish and a few tiny ones) and nothing could take his eyes off them! A lady from reception came over to give Elijah some candy and he didn’t even turn to look at her. He didn’t want the candy either. He was fixated on the fish!
As you can see, it is probably safe to assume that we were wrong about waiting another year.
Elijah definitely look ready for a trip to the aquarium!
