Refreshed. I can’t believe that we didn’t make the final decision to go to Bali until only 3 days before we left. We toyed with the idea for a long time, but something kept holding us back. This was the first winter vacation – which is almost always a month long – that we stayed in China to work. After two weeks of work, one night we just looked at each other and said, “let’s book those flights”.
It happens every year. Winter arrives and everything dies. China becomes a dry, brown, horrible places where the pollution seems to smother us. We tried to escape the misery outside by staying in and entering hibernation-mode, but the truth is that we are adventurous, and we love to feel the sun on our skin, so those first two weeks of the winter vacation were really tough. We now know that even though the summer breaks are double the length, that is a far better time to staycation in China. We simply can’t do the whole winter in China — if we want to maintain our sanity.
Since returning from Bali, everything seems clearer to me. I know that the winter will end soon. We have seen far more blue skies, the temperatures are slightly higher, and we are filled with the happy memories of our time in Indonesia. Perhaps it is as simple as needing some vitamin D from the sun. Whatever it is, the winter blues have been erased and we are looking forward to the rest of the year in China. Nothing like a little break to put things into perspective. Bali has left me feeling refreshed and ready!
It’s going to be a great year.
