Our Romantic Italian Date Night │Venice at Night. While we were in Rome, we snuck in a little date one afternoon while Eli was asleep in his stroller. If you missed that story, you can check it out here: Parking Him Off│Rome Date. As we have explained before, when we are traveling for weeks, it is sometimes hard to get any romantic or alone time in. Elijah isn’t old enough to stay alone, and we don’t really trust to leave him with anyone yet, so he’s with us 24/7 while we are traveling. We love the little guy to bits, but it sure is nice to be alone, as a couple, sometimes.
On our last night in Venice we were able to sneak a last minute date in, and everything about it was perfect! We had spent hours getting lost in the Venetian canals and side streets. It was mesmerizing to watch the light change as it bounced off the diverse mixture of bricks and uniquely painted walls that line the canal. This evening in Venice reminded me of The Night that I Fell in Love with Paris. I wish I had better words to aptly describe how beautiful these moments were too me, because even my pictures don’t do them the justice that they deserve. Nevertheless, the pictures do give you a rough idea of what I am on about…
Our Romantic Date
Later that evening, after hours of strolling around Venice, we realized that we had not eaten dinner. Although we were not overly hungry, we did feel like having a drink and something to eat. Every restaurant that we stopped at seemed overpriced or lacking in the charm that we were looking for. You would think that a higher price would get you that Italian romance that we were after. I guess that we are just “different”, and romance isn’t all about the fanciness of a place! We eventually stopped in an empty courtyard and sat down to eat at a humble little Italian restaurant. There were tables outside, and only a few other customers –> but they all looked very happy, and completely relaxed!
By that point Elijah was long gone to Lala Land, and we were about to “sneak in a date”. We ordered a couple of Italian beers, a pizza, and a Venetian rolled pizza. Everything about our date was amazing – we sat chatting, laughing, and reminiscing about our trip so far.
After dinner we went back to our hotel for our last night in Venice. In the morning we got up early to return to this area for a Gondola Ride through the enchanting canals. Oh sweet Venice – you really do know how to sweep a girl off her feet!
