At long last, Justin and I are happily settling into our apartment in Qingdao, China. This is our first home in a long time. In fact, this is our first apartment since we left South Korea in June 2011. Since then we have moved, traveled, explored, and ventured all over the world. We now find ourselves back in China, but at last we have a comfy little home to call our own.
We already did a blog post about Renting in China – and of course, we aren’t trying to persuade anyone to move to China (let’s face it, China is not for everyone) – but we just like to enlighten all of you on just how different life is here. Many of our followers have been begging for some pictures of our new place, understandably so, however we have been working non-stop lately, and we have not had a chance to decorate as we would like to. You are going to have to wait a little longer to see our home. We may even put together a little video tour of the place. Who knows?! You’ll have to wait and see.
We cleaned this apartment for DAYS. And when I say days – I mean waking up early, and cleaning from 8am, until late in the evening. I scrubbed, and scrubbed, and scrubbed. Justin was constantly in and out, picking up supplies, running errands, and making sure everything was in working order. Strangely enough, we picked the cleanest, nicest looking apartment, so who knows how long we would have been on our hands and knees if we had taken one of the fixer-upper apartments we had looked at.
We have only bought a couple pieces of furniture so far because we have been really blessed in this home, as it has almost everything we could ever need. The landlord even left pots, pans, a rice cooker, and tons of other cooking utensils. For this reason, we were not upset at all by the fact that we had to clean. How could we be? This place has everything, and we barely need to spend any money setting up our home. Justin put together some shelves for our bedroom, and hopefully in the next couple of months we will find some canvases, vases, and other goodies to turn this place into “our own”.
Being on the 24th floor really has it’s advantages. On hot humid days we get an amazing breeze coming through the whole apartment. it is very refreshing! One of our favourite parts of living here is the view – It is spectacular. There hasn’t been a single day that I haven’t admired the mountain from our bedroom or lounge. When the skies go dark, and a storm rolls in, we feel like we are in the heart of it all. I can’t imagine that we will ever want an apartment close to the ground after this.
Since we have been living in this same apartment complex for almost five months now, we already know where to get take-out, groceries, hair-cuts, and of course, ice cream. We have been cooking at home almost everyday, but when we are lazy we order take-out to enjoy while we watch movies. There are some meals that are cheaper to buy, than to make, over here in China. Crazy, but true!
Now all we need is for you to come over and visit us!
