Queenstown was one of those cities that we immediately fell in love with. We could ABSOLUTELY see ourselves living in a city like this. There is tons to explore, infinite adventures to be had and many cute cafes and stores lining neat little streets. On our second morning in Queenstown, we made out way directly to the gondola so that we could experience the views that we had heard so much about. We were definitely not disappointed by what we found!
Situated an easy five minute walk from central Queenstown, a Gondola carries visitors high above Queenstown to the Skyline complex. The best views in the region are found here, spread out in a spectacular 220-degree panorama, with breathtaking views of Coronet Peak, The Remarkables mountain range and across Lake Wakatipu to Cecil and Walter Peaks.
Skyline Queenstown Luge is a fun, fast-paced adventure activity!
Besides the amazing views and incredible food options, you can also get your share of fun on the Skyline Luge, a worldwide favourite and a must-do activity while in Queenstown. Jump in a Luge cart and enjoy a thrilling, gravity-fuelled downhill ride. Take in the stunning views as you twist and turn down the mountain. There are also over 30kms and 30 world class downhill trails to get your heart racing. Ranging from beginner, green trails right through to advanced double black, the Queenstown Bike Park has something to offer every Mountain Biker.
Soaking in the View
The views from Skyline were simply breathtaking. We ended up sitting at the outdoor cafe area for quite some time. I couldn’t get over the color of the mountains, and the fact that we could see SO MUCH. The only other place that made me feel like this was Switzerland! The pictures don’t do it justice, and no words could aptly describe the beauty of these mountain ranges!
A luge ride in Queenstown is incredible fun and suitable for people of all ages and levels of fitness and ability! Race downhill, zig-zagging past trees and round bends. You can go as fast or as slow as you like, controlling your speed as you go. Satisfy your need for speed on the advanced track or take a leisurely ride around the scenic track. When it’s over, take the chairlift all the way up for a second go! The Skyline Luge offers you 800 meters of undeniable adventuring.
We wanted to go over and over again!
Each time we went up the gondola or down the luge, we would alternate taking Eli so that we could get pictures of all of us. It turned out that the adrenaline-pumping ride down was way too crazy to be able to take the cameras out! We were all screaming with laughter. You will therefore mostly see pictures of us going up, and only one image of us in our carts as we were waiting in line at the end of the luge track.

What an amazing family adventure!
If I haven’t said it enough, I will say it again… We could absolutely see ourselves living in a country like this. New Zealand is absolutely gorgeous, with clean air, happy people, nice weather, and so endless adventure possibilities.
We highly recommend the Queenstown Skyline gondola and luge!
