We’re back in Texas!!
The journey from Donying to Dallas left us exhausted, and it took almost a week to recover from the lack of sleep on the trip. We made the mistake of sitting in the emergency isle (in the middle of the plane). People were walking into my legs and continuously waking us up to get across the plane.
We had a slight hiccup going through immigration in Seattle. Justin passed through the ‘citizen’ line quickly and then waited for me on the other side. My queue moved very slowly. A man was questioning all of us standing in the line. Even though I have a visa allowing me to enter for 6 months at a time, he seems surprised that I wanted to visit for this long. This made me nervous. He rose his eyebrows and told me I would have to explain my story to the immigration officer at the desk. I was extremely anxious at this point. At the desk I felt more at ease because the gentleman was smiling and friendly. He asked where I had been, how long I wanted to stay, what I would be doing, etc. When he looked at my Arrival Card he asked who lived in Dallas, and why I would be staying with them. I told him that I would be staying with my fiancés family. “For six months?” he asked. When I said yes, he picked up all my paperwork and said that I was going to need to answer some further questions, “follow me”, he then said. As we walked by Justin he told Justin to follow him too. We were taken to separate areas to be questioned individually.
Everything went well and they said that I could enter the States for 6 months however we would have GREAT difficultly entering at all after we get married in February. I was just relieved that I got in!!! So even though I have a 10 year tourist visa, I will need a different one after we get married. More paperwork!
When we finally arrived back in Texas we were thrilled to see Bryan and Sue waiting eagerly for us at DFW airport. Even though it was 9pm the air outside was hot and humid. We could definitely tell that we were back in Texas!!!
Sue bought me a ton of great scrapbooking material so that I could make a book with some of our engagement pictures. I had a week, before our engagement party, to complete it. Everyday I worked at it for a few hours.
On July 4th we went to Justin’s good friend, Enrique, for a BBQ.
It doesn’t take long to get a tan around here.
Hmm… Fajita meat on the BBQ
Aaliyah is 3 years old now. She was born when Justin first left for South Korea.
Time is certainly flying by quickly!
Little Enrique has grown a lot since we first met him last year.
Aaliyah and her grandfather.
(Don’t worry – the guy in the background is not dead.
He just enjoyed his Independence Day a little too much)
Grandma Marge came to visit from South Dakota for two weeks. She has not been to Texas for 5 years so she decided to take a break and come down to spend some time with us. She absolutely loves playing cards so Justin made a scoreboard for the family. As you can tell, I didn’t play much. I joined in on two evenings however I was super busy trying to complete our engagement scrapbook. I am learning a couple new card games however this is all new to me!
Hmm… Grandma Marge made sugar cookies!!
Justin had three other family members come down to Texas for a few days too. Paula brought her cute little dog and we took her for a swim in the pool.
We couldn’t figure out if she liked it or not, but she kept coming back for more.
We were sad to see Grandma Marge go so I made her a goodbye card. She was great company, and we enjoyed having her here.
Justin, Sue and I took her to the airport for her flight back to South Dakota.
It’s been great to be back in Texas and around family again.
We really appreciate all the time that we get to spend with everyone.
