Day 24-25. We spent two days sleeping in and making the most of our wonderful deluxe seaview room and it’s balcony overlooking palm trees, mountain, and the beach. We had done all that we wanted to do and already seen Koh Tao on our trip to Thailand in 2012, so we decided to stay on Koh Phangan until it was time to return to Bangkok. We walked along the beach, ate good food, watched the sun go down, played cards, and read books.
Day 26. A travel day. Step 1: Resort to Pier by minivan; Step 2: Koh Phangan (via Koh Sumui) Surrat Thani by ferry; Step 3: Transfer to Surrat Thani train station by bus; and finally, Step 4: An overnight train to Bangkok. That sounds relatively easy… and it would have been had we not run into ridiculous delays on the train. Our journey took us 27 hours!! More coming in a blog post later.
Day 27. Arrived in around 2pm Bangkok and went to our hotel to check in. This was our day of shopping. A chance to stock up on anything that we struggle to find in China – yes, we need to stock up on normal things in Southeast Asia — Crazy! We also bought more clothes for my growing belly, since China mostly sells hideous one-in-one outfits for pregnant ladies, make-up supplies, some baby clothes, medication, home decor, and anything else that we had seen while traveling through Thailand but didn’t want to carry around for our whole trip. This was our time to bargain, and get some deals. We had such a good time out shopping, and since we were under budget on most days… we had even more money to spend – BONUS!
hhmmm… Complimentary buffet breakfast!
Day 28-29. Our vacation is over. Time to head back to China, and face the cold harsh weather that awaits us there. But wait — not yet, one of our flights got cancelled so we flew to Hong Kong and spent the night in a very fancy hotel. Lovely! We were thankful for the extra half a day in Bangkok. I think we are really going to miss it! In the morning we did the final leg of our month-long journey, and arrived in Qingdao on Sunday afternoon at 2pm.
We have had an absolutely awesome vacation, and we can’t wait to get all of our photos sorted so that we can share them with you. There are many stories and adventures to be told. Thank you for following along as we journeyed through an amazing country… Thailand, “The Land of Smiles”
