The Best Stops │ Night on a Farm
On a road trip, sometimes the best stops are those that you can’t plan. Those moments that you never expect. I can’t recall the name of this little town, but while we were on the South Island of New Zealand. Somewhere between Dunedin and the Lake Tekapo, we stopped at this awesome little park. We had stocked up on picnic food, and we were excited to find a spot of grass where we could sit down. Little did we know, that this great park awaited us.
We lay down a couple towels under a huge tree, and let Eli run off to play on the jungle gym in front of us. He is at a great age, where we don’t have to follow him around, but he still needs some supervision for the high things. I don’t know where kids get their boldness, but they also tend to tumble and trip a lot. Well, Eli does! It is not a good combination.
While daddy and Eli ran off to explore the park, I opened all of our food and prepped the picnic.
To our right, there was also a big splash pool. It wasn’t just a small dinky one either. It was massive! We stripped down a couple of layers and let Eli jump right in. He absolutely loved every second of it. As you can imagine, he wasn’t too happy when we started packing up. We ate some food and then got ready to get back on the road.
Oh the Freedom
We still very much want to travel by Campervan. I feel like we would really enjoy that slow pace type of travel, and it would allow for many more stops like this. Of course, we tend to cover ridiculous distances on our road trips, so we would either need to set smaller goals, OR have longer vacations. hehehe, wishful thinking on that second one, right?!
A Night on a Farm
That afternoon, we checked into our next accommodation, a fully functioning farm on the way to Lake Tekapo. The farmers were actually away while we were there, but a young couple were standing the farm for them while they were gone. We got to feed some lambs, and see the horses.
Our room was perfect for us! It is not visible in the picture, below, but we had a sitting area, with a fridge, kettle, dining room table, TV, arm chairs, etc. This little apartment was well-equipt, and amazingly clean. The bed was also super comfy!
For this trip, Eli was still sleeping in the pack ‘n play, so we set him up for the night, before venturing out again. Our goal for the afternoon was to check out Lake Tekapo. I really had my heart set on seeing the evening sky from the Mackenzie Basin, but the weather turned stormy and the sky was not visible.
