The Dryer Hideout. A couple of days ago I heard Elijah upstairs playing by the washing machine and dryer. The gates at the top and the bottom of our staircase have now been removed, so Elijah basically has free-reign around the house. There are some doors that we still keep closed, since he likes to put things into the toilet and trash can, and also empty drawers or hide toys in obscure places. He will soon be able to reach the door knobs, and then we will make a new plan for preventing his entrance to those areas, but for now he is really enjoying being able to go up and downstairs. Our laundry/ craft area used to be open, since it is at the top of the staircase, but since finding out that Elijah likes to play with my craft supplies… and evidently, to also climb into the dryer, we have gated off this area for now. When I’m up there doing laundry, he likes to get into the dryer (which is unplugged since we don’t use it too much).
The picture below really made me smile because it reminded me of the time when I caught Elijah leaning into the washing machine roughly a year ago. Back then he wasn’t walking yet, but he would lift himself into the washing machine and play with toys in there. This kids seriously loves playing in small areas, so we will have to make a little tree house/ fort/ hideout for him in the next few years.
Above, Elijah leaning into the washing machine in our old apartment a year ago.
He went back and forth to between his playroom getting teddies and toys to put into the dryer.
