|All week long!|
If there’s one thing I know for sure now… It is that looking after a sick baby is nowhere near as difficult as looking after a baby while you are sick! One our way back from the Philippines, Elijah had a cold. He was snotty, coughing, sneezing and not his usual self. It was sad to see our baby all clogged up and feeling yucky. I even mentioned that I wanted to take it from him so that he could feel better. Three days later, I got what I asked for, and immediately regretted it! I haven’t been as sick as I was this last week in years! There was fever, coughing, aching muscles, itchy eyes, blocked sinuses and terrible headaches. Shortly after falling pregnant last year, I fell ill and it was not nice but I recovered pretty quickly. This year was so much worse! I’m not usually one to take medicine, but when needed, I will. It’s amazing how much quicker you get better when you are able to take something to help you recover. Now that I’m nursing, medicine (or any decongestants, which I needed) are not allowed. Taking medicine would mean not being able to feed Elijah. Breast milk is best for babies, and being around the flu can be disastrous for little ones. The antibodies in breast milk are exactly what Elijah needed to keep from getting my flu, and seeing as he merely had a cold a few days earlier, I didn’t want him exposed to my germs and not have the miracle of breast milk on his side. I pushed through, took no drugs, and relied on body’s own healing abilities to overcome this nasty flu which seemed to infect every cell in my body.
