The Wooden Cabin on a Lake
**Our post were temporarily a little out of order, and CLEARLY, we are waaaaaay behind now. But nevertheless, we are continuing with the Germany adventures.**
After a half day spent exploring the gorgeous little town of Füssen, we drove to a small private lake in the vicinity of Lake Constance. This area, in southern Germany, is close to Switzerland and Austria. We drove through some gorgeous forested areas. I particularly loved one of the roads (pictured below) that was lined with ridiculously taller trees. It was such an enchanting forested area.
When we got to the private lake, we drive onto the land and up to the main house. We had found this property on AirBnb, and even though options were somewhat limited, I really loved the sound of this place. It wasn’t fancy at all – it was secluded, quiet, private and affordable.
The little wooden cabin that we would be spending the next couple of nights in, was situated right over the water. We had to cross a bridge in order to get to it. Already I could tell that there were going to be bugs galore, but it felt like this was worth it. We immediately checked to make sure that Eli couldn’t fall into the water, and it seemed that the area around the cabin was completely secure. There was even a gate stopping him from leaving. Perfect!
Inside the house was modest, but cozy. There was a fold-down sofa, a fireplace, and a tiny dining room table. Even though this place was small – it had EVERYTHING we could possibly need! We stocked the fridge with beers, food and snacks… and planned to stay put until we had to hit the road again.
One thing that I had seemed to overlook when I was searching through the AirBnb posts was that this place didn’t have a toilet onsite. Imagine my dismay when I realized that any after-dark toilet runs would need to be done IN THAT!! Oh my — my heart skipped a beat just thinking about the creepy crawlies that might be lurking in there at night. I am scared of simple moths flying into my hair, never mind the bigger bugs that would be hiding in a lush area like this.
One night, armed with a flashlight, I had to make a toilet-run without Justin. On the way I passed a cute little hedgehog. That didn’t scare me, but being alone in that wooden cubicle, and having to sit down with my butt facing into darkness…. now THAT scared me!!
Our Delicious Meals
We enjoyed a number of tasty dishes out on the lake. Justin did end up driving off to get a few extra supplies – probably when our beers rans out. hahaha! We had no internet on the lake, no interferences, and not a soul in sight. It was absolutely amazing!
In the morning, coffee and breakfast while looking out over the water. Fresh flowers from the owner of the property.
The shower was located at the back of the cabin, and overlooking the lake. No one could see you showering, but you could see the lake. For the less adventurous, there was a curtain that you could pull across, for more privacy.
This was just what we were looking for at this point of our journey. Since our rest in Austria, we had adventured through Hungary, Slovakia, Czech Republic and most of Southern Germany, without too much stopping to completely unwind. Our rest stop here was good for our souls.
