Three Shoots One Morning│ On Friday morning, with many families on a short break for Thanksgiving, my morning filled up quickly with family photo shoots. Daylight hours are less now, and there are also the occasional rainy days to contend with. However recently, the biggest deterrent has been the cold. No one wants to stand around for an hour, trying to look like they are having fun, while freezing! It has been REALLY COLD in the during the last 2-3 weeks, and this last weekend was forecast as being even colder than it has been up to now. Miraculously though, on Friday morning the sun came out and things got quiet toasty!
I had lined up three shoots, back-to-back, and dressed really warm so that I wouldn’t be distracted by the predicted low temperatures. As you can see above, I wore a beanie, thick coat, and fingerless gloves (so I could leave them on while I took pictures). I was totally prepared for that cold… the cold that never came! As it turned out, I was actually sweating at only halfway through the first family shoot. Typical! No matter how I try to prepare… I am always under or over-dressed!
Look at the beautiful blue sky and clean air…
All three shoots went very well! Due to the fact that the sun came out, we didn’t have to worry about all the little ones getting sick or miserable. I have yet to experience a family shoot where it is too cold to shed coats. I am very thankful for this!
On Saturday afternoon I did a maternity shoot right here in our backyard. Look at these gorgeous leaves! You might recognized this spot from the play-time that Eli and I have outside during the weekda. I recently took some pictures of him playing in these leaves. You can see those HERE. The maternity shoot was also a great success.
I can’t tell you have grateful I am for all of these photo shoots that have been rolling in. Every day I get a new request or booking! November has been a busy, but blessed, month! Things will definitely quieten down soon, but I really feel like I am finally doing what I have wanted to do for so long. People are starting to recognize me as “Catherine the photographer” and this makes me smile.
There is no doubt that I enjoy teaching, but it is not something that I want to do forever. Photography on the other hand is something I have ALWAYS loved. The reason that I kept delaying putting my name out there was because I thought that I first needed to get better at taking photos, and THEN I should advertise myself. But the truth is that people ALREADY love my pictures and in doing these shoots I am learning more and more each day. I am so very thankful for my husband, and my closest friends who have been pushing me to do this for years.
It feels so good to be appreciated for something that makes you happy.
As they say, “Do something you love, and you’ll never work another day in your life”
If you haven’t yet noticed – there is a new tab at the top of this blog. It is the last menu option on the right, labeled “CAPTURED by Cat”. It is there that you can see my photo shoots (old and new). I thought long and hard about a name for my photography business, and this is the one that I decided on.
Watch this space folks. Catherine Esser is finally stepping out!
