All the training is over ~ Tomorrow is the big day. MY FIRST MARATHON!!!
I am excited, nervous, anxious, relaxed, and ecstatic all rolled into one! It’s quiet difficult to explain exactly how I feel. There are moments where I think I will never make it, then others where I imagine myself being a total bad a** and finishing with an amazing time… Tomorrow we will see which one it is!
My Race bib, t-shirt, and “pace band”
In January this year, Justin made his way to the Xiamen marathon office to pick up my race packet. I lay in a hotel bed coughing, aching, and fighting the fact that I was not fit to run the marathon I had just spent 4 months training so hard for. The day before (what was supposed to be) my first marathon, I had to admit defeat and withdraw from the race! I had developed a chest infection four days before the marathon, and there was no going back! At the time I was very disappointed, but now I’m happy that the Dallas Marathon will be my first because I have lots of support here, and it’s going to be a special day.
So many people,
So much going on,
a SMALL taste of what is to come tomorrow!!!
There’s my name ~ Runner Number 3161
There was a huge wall filled with all the runners names.
Dad, are you running? I see your name there!!! 😉
We bought Clif Bloks (for energy) and then I picked up a “pace band”. Justin seems to think I will be done in 4.30 hours, but I wanted to take the 5:30 one. haha… I must totally underestimate my running abilities. I run SO SLOWLY… I truly cannot imagine anyone running slower than me tomorrow. The reduction in running over the last two weeks has lead me to feel like I don’t know how to run anymore. It’s an odd feeling ~ Maybe other runners can relate.
Stopping for Starbucks after picking up my race packet
Once we got home, I saw paper everywhere. Sue had been working on some signs for tomorrow. This really made me feel special. Justin joined her, and they have been working hard for a couple hours.
This is the Dallas Marathon course for 2012. As you can see, White Rock Lake is to the right of the map. I have run around that lake multiple times (see those blog posts here and here) but as you can see, the marathonon wraps around one side of the lake, and then goes through some neighbourhoods. It starts and ends in downtown Dallas.
I bought some cute tops at the expo.
Isn’t he amazing!?!?!
Thank you to everyone for the support. I appreciate the messages, emails, and these motivational posters. Tomorrow is going to be fun. Thank you for following along through all the training updates!
Justin has set up a race tracking app on Facebook, so once I cross certain points in the course, it should show up as a status update. I will start running at about 8:00-8:30am, so follow along if you can. I hope that the app works ~ Check out our Facebook page for updates.
More news tomorrow.
WISH ME LUCK!!
