Our Trash the Dress Shoot
After our incredible wedding day on a wine farm, we were blessed with a special opportunity to “do it all over again”. This time it was simple and only us, but so much more fun that we ever imagined it would be. Why did we get married again? WELL, organizing a wedding from abroad is difficult, but doing so from a THIRD (non-speaking) country, is even more challenging. In the months leading up to our wedding, we moved between the US and South Korea, and then down to South Africa. We didn’t want to bother with paperwork on the day of our wedding, so we decided to sort all of that out after the big day. It was, after all, the vows that made our weeding our wedding – not the paperwork.
Our wedding photographer had agreed to meet us for a “Trash the Dress” shoot on a small secluded beach along the coast of Cape Town. We needed to meet the pastor who officiated our wedding during the same week. So we thought – why not make a special day out of it all?! We met with the pastor and our witnesses at a cafe, signed the papers, and then checked into a hotel downtown. There we spent a couple of hours relaxing before getting ready for our photoshoot. You can read about the whole afternoon HERE. When we were all dressed up and ready to go, we got into our car – wedding dress and all – and drove off to the designated beach. In the boot of the car we had some snacks and a bottle of champagne. By this stage we were already so high on happiness that it really did feel like a second wedding day to us!
Things got even more fun when we were doing the shoot. We laughed SO HARD! Keeping my dress ON MY BODY was challenging when it weighed a ton with all the water and sand getting soaked into the bottom layers. I don’t think that we could have imagined that we would have enjoyed a simple photoshoot as much as we did. With no one around, and just each other to stare at… we felt like we were on a private island! The sun was setting, and the water looked gorgeous. We were SO IN LOVE, and the happiness was radiating from us.
It was dark when we finally stopped taking pictures. We popped open the bottle of champagne and sat in the sand drinking it together. Not many people get to say that they had TWO weddings in one month, but we did, and we absolutely loved both of them. The first wedding was elegant and formal, and all about the vows. The second one was the legal one, but somehow we took what could have been a very simple meeting and turned it into an unforgettable day.
For some reason, even though I did a Sneak Peak, I never actually did a full post on these photos. Since today is the anniversary of this day, here are the pictures from that Trash the Dress shoot. At the end of the night we were amazed at how dirty my feet and dress were… but amazingly enough, the dress still looks really really great!
