Uluwatu Sunset. On our very last day on the beautiful island of Bali, we watched the sun set over the ocean. We had based ourselves in Ubud, which is located in the centre of Bali, for the entire duration of our trip. We therefore ventured to the coastline for some day trips, but most of our sunsets were seen from Ubud. And although beautiful there is something unique about a sunset over the ocean. We thought that it was therefore rather fitting that we would end off our trip down at Uluwatu Temple, admiring the sunset.
Uluwatu Temple is a Balinese sea temple in Uluwatu (Kuta South, Badung). It is renowned for its magnificent location, perched on top of a steep cliff approximately 70 metres above sea level. This temple also shares the splendid sunset backdrops as that of Tanah Lot Temple, another famous temple that we had visited earlier in our trip. Pura Luhur Uluwatu is definitely one of the top places on the island to go to for sunset delights, with direct views overlooking the beautiful Indian Ocean. Balinese architecture, traditionally-designed gateways, and ancient sculptures add to Uluwatu Temple’s appeal.
We arrived at Uluwatu Temple at about 4:30pm and still had plenty of time to wander around the temple grounds. In earlier blog posts, we showed you around the temple and also told you about the monkeys who were after our flip-flops. Here are some pictures of the breathtaking sunset…
The perfect end to a magnificent vacation!
