For Christmas Justin bought me the awesome heart rate monitor pictured below – the Geonaute 410 – we looked online at many of them, but it came down to this one as it was one of only three options in the Decathlon store near to where we stay. It’s pretty much slim pickings when it comes to everything here, but despite the minimal choices, I loved my heart rate monitor when I tried it out for the first time last week!
As I have said before, I have picked up far too much weight for someone only in the 16th week of pregnancy. Of course, it was all due to the nausea in the first trimester. Oddly enough, most people lose weight then, but I was eating just to get myself out of bed and off to school everyday. I was not however throwing up, which meant I picked up way too much weight in a very short time period.
Now that I’m feeling normal again, I want to make sure that I get as healthy as possible – so that means it’s time for healthy food, exercise and lots of water. All three I have neglected over the past few months, and especially during the last two months! But that’s okay, I can still turn this all around, and hopefully just keep feeling more and more amazing as the pregnancy progresses.
I have been for a few slow jogs now, and it really does feel incredible to be exercising again. On my first run, I was so happy that I kept sprinting off, and had to slow down when I would glance at my HRM and see that I was pushing too hard. Without this new device of mine, I would have just kept going, but with ‘baby on board’ I need to keep my heart rate at a good level.
My runs and walks are really chilly right now, but there’s no snow or ice on the ground – thankfully not because that might make it a little too dangerous for me to go outside. The lake in our complex was frozen about a week ago, but now all that remains of the ice is that on the waterfall area.
I’m not feeling as cold as I thought I would running outdoors, but then again, with baby on board I am probably a lot warmer than usual on any given day. I have started to slow down to more of a speed walk instead of a run, and I’m doing my best to listen to my body (baby). I feel myself getting stronger by the day, and that feels good. I know that it’s for the best to be fit and healthy while pregnant, and I am grateful for the ability to now be active again.
