We just got through a rather long week. Justin had to work for 8 days in a row because our school shuffled the holidays around. As we’ve explained before, if there is a public holiday on a Thursday then they will give us the Friday off. That way we can have a long weekend, but we then have to make that day up. Often that means having to work on a Sunday. For most Chinese people, this doesn’t really affect their plans, but we really like to go to church so it’s a bummer to have to make up days on a Sunday. It also means that even though you get three days off in a row, the following week, you have to work a long week. It doesn’t really make sense to us, but it works for the Chinese people who leave town to visit family.
With Justin working that Sunday, Elijah and I made our way to church alone. Afterwards, we were about to catch a bus home when two of my friends, Nicole and Rachel, said that they were going down to a cafe by the beach. The skies were blue and the air was not too cold – I couldn’t let this opportunity pass, so I decided to take Elijah for a walk on the beach. My friends liked this idea so we all ended up walking along Shilaoren Beach and chatting.
Justin and I are hoping to find a new apartment closer to the beach so that while he is at work, I can take Elijah to the beach during the day. Pretty soon he’ll really enjoy activities like that, and this momma can’t imagine anything better than a beach day once or twice a week! Here are some pictures from our stroll along the beach on Sunday afternoon…
