On the day that we found out that we were having a baby boy in Bangkok, Thailand, we were done at the hospital before 11am so we decided to do some sightseeing. Despite the fact that both of us had seen this temple before – Justin in 2010 and me in 2011 – we were yet to see it together, so we made our way over to Wat Pho. As far as we could remember, we both really liked the grounds on which this temple stood, so this would be a nice relaxing self-tour for us. We made our way to the Phra Nakhon District of Bangkok, to explore one of this city’s largest and oldest wats.
When I visited this wat two years ago I saw a lot more monks than we did on this particular day. In fact, the above picture was taken back in 2011 when I came to Bangkok alone. Most of the monks are very young-looking, and they the funniest part is that they all have smart phones. I don’t know why that is so amusing to me – I guess I imagined that they would lead a life much simpler than that. One free from electronics and modern technology.
After touring the temple grounds it was time for a snack…
I took Justin to the same Pad Thai stand that I had eaten at three years before. As I suspected, the food was just as good as before! We each had a chicken pad thai, and then we crossed the river nearby to go and see the the Temple of Dawn before the sun started to set.
