Mommy this week –
How far along? 21 weeks
Total weight gain: I stepped onto a scale outside a 7Eleven and weighed myself – just out of interest. I’m up a crazy 10 lbs since coming to Thailand, but since I fluctuate so much from day-to-day normally, I’m not going to read too much into this number until I’m home and I can monitor my weight better. According to ‘What to Expect When Expecting’ it would be dangerous for me to be gaining weight at this speed (ie. more than 3lbs a week) so thankfully I will be home in just over one week, and I can eat a more balanced diet and monitor my weigh more accurately. No more creamy Thai curries, Pad Thai, fruit shakes, and coconut ice cream. Now that we are on the islands we don’t walk around as much, so that hadn’t helped… BUT I feel good so that’s all that matters for now!
Stretch Marks? Using Bio-Oil since the beginning of my pregnancy. No stretch marks yet.
Sleep: No sleep issues at all. We enjoyed the peaceful warm nights, and the cool breeze which came through our beachfront bungalow as we slept. We have been sleeping-in lately since it’s not too hot and we are located under a huge tree. This resort has been perfect for sleeping and napping. For the last three nights we have been in a deluxe room with beautiful views… Again, great sleep!!
Best moment of the week: So many!! Where do I begin!? Feeling sweet baby kicking, seeing one of the most incredible pink sunsets that we have ever witnessed, finding an amazing restaurant with incredible views and a menu that we HAD TO go back to a few times… Just loving the Thailand sights, sounds and tastes.
Miss Anything? Besides family and friends – nothing much at all.
Baby Movement: Yes!!! I have been feeling small little flicks and twitches since the first night we got to Thailand (January 19th), and I just recently figured out that they are the beginnings of kicks, but since my placenta is located on the anterior wall of my uterus, it will take longer to feel full blown kicks than normal. I was relieved to find this info out, and I will write more about that in a blog post tomorrow. Lots of exciting news about baby’s movements, so look out for that post if you are interested in finding out more!! Everyday I feel more and more… It truly is absolutely amazing, and brings a smile to my face EVERYTIME!!
Food Cravings: Nope – nothing yet. This must just not be one of those crazy-craving pregnancies!
Anything making you queasy or sick: No, feeling great!! I’m hoping this doesn’t change when we get back to smelly China. We are praying for clean air.
Gender: It’s a BABY BOY!! A little Justin!
Labor Signs: Nope!
Symptoms: Gaining weight fast but that is probably due to the ridiculous amount of yummy Thai food and fruit smoothies I have been having for four weeks now. Skin, hair, moods, and energy levels still great. Occasional leg cramps but once I stretch they don’t return for ages. Long periods of travel make my feet swell, so we are taking an overnight train (not a bus) back to Bangkok. This will allow me to walk around every couple hours and also elevate my feet when I’m lying down.
Wedding rings on or off? Off – we’ll see if they fit when we get back to China next week!
Looking forward to: Nothing… Just perfectly happy with the way that everything is right now.
Baby this week – The size of a pomegranate! Baby is big enough now for me to be able to feel his movements, but he is behind the placenta – and therefore lying more towards my back than my tummy. Full-blown kicks will be felt later for me that some other mothers. I thought that junior was shy, but now I know what is really happening inside my belly. We are so thankful for the extra info that we received at the Thai hospital during our scan in week 19. Baby’s skin now responds to touch, and when I place pressure on my belly, he will move away or push back. His digestive system is preparing for the outside world by manufacturing meconium – a black tarry substance. Little guy hiccups in the morning (I felt that for the first time on Februray 12th).
