One of my students, Leo, playing in the puddles with his friends.
It’s been three weeks since we arrived in China.
Life is slow and very different here. It is taking some time to adjust.
It is very evident that we are no longer surrounded by the comforts that we had in South Korea!
Here are some snapshots of the last week, or so.
Justin, waiting for me, outside his class. Heather waiting for Zachary.
It was pretty rainy for a few days.
The students play outside, regardless of the weather!!
The bugs seem to be too smart for this bug-light zapper (above right). I caught Justin sleeping with the new bug zapper (above left), in his hand!!! It was cute in a kind of weird way. Or sad. I can’t decide!
We found a fruit tree right outside our classrooms.
It seems to be a pomegranate. It was yummy!
Our school has two goats, a few chickens, and some other kinds of birds.
“You won’t like me when I’m angry!” haha..
Above left, After playing basketball, with Zachary, Justin looked like he was turning into “The Hulk”. Above right, Justin and I riding Heather’s bike late at night through the barely lit streets of our neighbourhood.
Dinner at Zach and Heather’s place.
Chara was determined to sit on Justin’s lap.
Take out from the little store near our school.
And dessert, of course!
We eat in the school’s cafeteria twice a day. There are a few minutes of stillness (if you arrive early), and then a loud rumbling, resembling thunder, starts, as the kids begin running up the stairs, towards the cafeteria.
This was quite a tasty lunch. Courgette, and meat (top), celery, spinach, and pork (bottom), and a delicious meat-filled bun (left). We add a chill oil to everything to give it some more flavor.
Heather and Zachary.
This is Josh and he is Canadian. We eat with him regularly.
He lives on the school grounds, like Justin and I.
Behind us you can see some of the students having their lunch.
There is a massive eating hall downstairs as well.
Dinner at our usual spot (across the road from school).
Left, Justin says that the beer glasses are, “Catherine sized”
Top Right, Pork, green pepper and lots of oil. Bottom Right, Gong Bao Ji Ding
This week, we learnt about “Our 5 senses”.
I made it fun by blindfolding the kids, and having them smell, and taste, different things.
It was VERY entertaining!!
Dinner at the BBQ restaurant, with Zachary, Heather, and Josh, just a short walk from our school.
Lots of food, beer and laughter.
We hope that you all had a great week.
More news and pictures coming soon.
