|The black dots = Baby Movement|
I had no idea that I was going to do this test at the hospital, or I would have skipped my morning cup of coffee today. When we returned to the doctors office with our print-out from the fetal heart rate monitoring (left), she told me that I needed to go sit with an oxygen mask on my face for a while, and then go for another 20 minute fetal heart rate monitoring. Considering that we weren’t even going to do it the first time round, but they signed us up without knowing it, there was no way that we were going to do all of that again. I know for a fact that in China if they baby doesn’t move enough, they are concerned, and if it moves too much, well then you need oxygen. How is the oxygen going to make the baby move less? And what is the point of doing that? Of course, I didn’t tell her that I had drank coffee a couple hours before because in China that is completely forbidden during pregnancy – along with ice cream, make up, painting your nails, “tight clothes”, sex, carbonated sodas, drinking cold water, and many many other things (more on that in an upcoming post!). She would have treated me like a negligent mother if I told her that, so I lied and said that I had eaten chocolate since he moves just as much after I do that. Still she didn’t care that I had supposed overindulged on sugar, all she wanted was for us to go have the oxygen and retake the test. We asked what the oxygen would do, and she couldn’t really tell us, so we didn’t take it. To us it seemed pointless – wouldn’t oxygen cause the baby to move MORE? Once again we are told things we don’t understand and frowned at when we dare to ask any questions!!
