Ziplining Soča Valley
One of our favorite European adventures was ziplinging through the Soča Valley in Slovenia. There is one word to describe the beautiful forests in this country – MAGICAL! The trees are full of character, the leaves a vibrant green, and the color of the water is just spectacular! Our best footage from this day were actually in the form of video, but we did manage to snap a few shots of the day. At some stage during the next few months, we will (eventually) get around to making videos on all of our recent action-packed trips. For now, however, the pictures will have to do.
We did our ziplining with a company called Bovec Zipline – you can check out their website HERE. They are partnered with Soča Rafting and through them you can do a collection of awesome adventures. There are multiple packages, with discounts of online purchases. Ziplinging, rafting, canyoning, kayaking and hiking can be combined for a day jam-packed with fun. We really enjoyed our day with this organized and efficient adventure company. Our team leaders were both friendly and entertaining – a great day, with much laughter and fun.
What is ziplining?
I’m sure that most of you know, and have already tried, ziplinging. But for those not “in the know”, let me give a quick explanation. When you Zipline, you hang onto a steel cable, and then “zip” from station/ platform to another. It might seem a little crazy, but this is actually quite a safe activity. Even young children (over a certain height) can take part.
This particular zipline park is the largest in Slovenia. It has eight steel cables, with lengths of 250 to 400m. These cables provide more than two hours of fun and adrenalin descents, in addition to beautiful panoramic views towards the canyon Učja, Bovec Basin and Mount Triglav. This experience is nothing short of spectacular!
Above, When we arrived at the starting grid, guides explained the basics. We were then given the opportunity to practice our “training” on a 20 m long steel cable. There were a few nervous folks, so this was a good time for them to get comfortable. When everyone felt confident, we began our hike to our first station.
In addition to the adrenaline packed “zipping” from station to station, we also had the opportunity to chat to the experienced guides about the surrounding area. We learned about the protected flora and fauna in an unspoiled valley Učja, and its history.
Above, Believe it our not there is a zipline going through the valley pictured above. The line was so long that it is barely visible amongst the trees. It was absolutely exhilarating moving through these valleys. It felt like we were flying!
One of the guides would always go ahead of the rest of us, and another would stay behind to make sure that we placed our harnesses onto the cable correctly. We started out with both hands on the cable harness, but after a couple of lines, we had one hand off the line, and the cameras were on. With each line we got braver and braver!
Meeting point for the zipline in our sport center Soča rafting in Bovec, where you can get all the necessary equipment and learn about the formalities. All guides and vehicles start from here, and make the journey to Bovec, which is 9 km away.
